The withdrawal of about 7 meters from the sea is an unusual behavior in the islands. A situation similar se dio el 27 febrero del año anterior cuando un fuerte terremoto sacudió Chile, y se produjo un tsunami cuyos efectos se sintieron en las costas de las islas.
Según el centro de investigaciones del mar de Galápagos, la ola grande llegaría a las17:35 hora de Galápagos (18:35 de Ecuador continental).
